The Marie Smith Center Zine Group is about creating friendships across cultures and generations. It’s about connecting Portland’s younger artists to the city’s history, and providing a voice for a population of marginalized elders. It’s about engaging adults with cognitive and physical limitations, combining art therapy and storytelling, to change how adult day centers integrate their clients and the surrounding community. We, Marc and Nicole, have been making zines at the MSC for six years, volunteering every week, because we love the work. Now we want to make a book to reach a larger audience.
